Ah yes, the written word

I’ve been keeping a journal slash sketchbook since I was fourteen and it is literally a record of my life. Black ink on paper, baby. I call it The Scrapmine.

The Scrapmine holds an interesting mix of thoughts, poems, rants, sketches of ideas, lighting diagrams, layout thumbnails, ephemera of all sorts, scraps of paper found on the sidewalk, ticket stubs, Pantone chips, type exploration and anything else, really. The Scrapmine is not precious to me. It works for me, I don’t owe it anything except the truth and what’s in there is the truth. One could watch the trials and struggles as I work out a logo, or the exhaustive research for a lighting setup, architectural drawings, or even a gear list for a shoot, rough drafts of contracts, a packing list for travel, phone numbers, words, recipes and meeting notes. It’s all there and this is just an extension of that. Let’s see what happens.
